3 Curriculum vitae* Michael G. Gikuhi المراق Personal details Name: Michael G. Gikuhi Profession: Geoscientist Date of birth: 15 May 1962 Nationality: Kenyan Languages: English, Kiswahili Responsibilities, experience and achievements Michael Gikuhi is currently a director in charge of maritime and continental shelf affairs at the Kenya International Boundaries Office in the Cabinet Affairs Office. He advises the Government on maritime matters, including the delineation o f the continental shelf, seabed resources (including ISBA matters) and maritime boundaries. He has a clear understanding of key articles in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), particularly those touching on the continental shelf and seabed resources (including the deep seabed). He is the lead scientist defending Kenya s continental shelf submission before the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) in New York. Head of the technical team that prepared Kenya s continental shelf submission to CLCS, which encompassed the compilation of the submission, data acquisition plans, data analysis and presentation and the desktop study. Lead scientist in two UNCLOS marine surveys for Kenya, in 1997 (bathymetric) and 1998 (seismic). Accomplished geoscientist with over 30 years of work experience as a geophysicist, 13 of which have been exclusive to UNCLOS-related activities: delineation of the continental shelf, Meetings of States Parties and review of the ISBA mining code ; in addition to vast practical experience in geological sciences, in particular exploration geophysics.
